Comparison
Verimail vs Verifalia
Two email verification APIs for the form, side by side: what one call returns, what it costs, and how each handles an address the mail server will not confirm.
Every Verifalia fact on this page was read from Verifalia's own pages:
Verifalia (Cobisi Research, Italy) has verified email since 2005 and offers list verification, a REST API with SDKs for six platforms, a JavaScript widget, three levels of verification quality and integrations through Zapier and Pipedream. Verimail is an email verification API and file verifier from Verimail Ltd, built around one rule: a result is a conclusive verdict with its reason, or an honest unknown that costs nothing.
Both check an address's syntax, its domain and its mailbox with the receiving mail server, and both group results into deliverable, undeliverable, risky and unknown. The shapes differ: Verimail answers one call with one verdict; Verifalia creates a validation job, which for a single address is usually answered in the same request. This page is for a developer choosing an API to validate addresses as they are typed into a signup, checkout or lead form. Every fact about Verifalia comes from the pages linked above; check them before you decide.
What one call returns
| Verimail | Verifalia | |
|---|---|---|
| Request | POST or GET https://api.verimail.io/v3/verify with a Bearer key; one call, one answer | POST https://api.verifalia.com/v2.7/email-validations creates a job. The API waits up to waitTime (0 to 30,000 ms) and answers 200 with the results, or 202 with a URL to poll |
| Result buckets | verdict: deliverable, undeliverable, risky, unknown | classification: Deliverable, Undeliverable, Risky, Unknown |
| Reason with every result | Yes: reason, a named reason, each defined on the result codes page | Yes: status, one of more than 40 status codes, e.g. Success, MailboxDoesNotExist, ServerIsCatchAll, MailboxTemporarilyUnavailable |
| Score | None. A verdict and its reason; nothing to threshold | None: a classification and a status code |
| Suggested action | suggested_action on every answer: accept, accept_and_confirm or reject | Not a field. Custom classification schemes and override rules on paid plans |
| Flags | flags: disposable, role_account, free_provider, catch_all | isDisposableEmailAddress, isRoleAccount, isFreeEmailAddress |
| Typo suggestion | did_you_mean | suggestions: alternative spellings (API v2.5 and later) |
| Catch-all domains | risky, reason domain_catch_all. A random address and yours are both tested, so a full or dead mailbox on a catch-all domain still gets its own verdict. Billed | status ServerIsCatchAll, "possibly risky": the mailbox cannot be verified |
| The mail server's reply | On request (evidence=true): the SMTP exchange step by step, the MX host, TLS and timings | Not returned |
| Timeout | timeout in milliseconds, 1,000 to 45,000, default 45,000. On expiry: verdict unknown, reason timeout, not billed | waitTime caps how long the request waits for the job (up to 30 s). A slow mail server is its own status code, e.g. MailboxValidationTimeout or SmtpConnectionTimeout; the docs recommend a higher quality level for a definitive answer |
| When the server won't answer | verdict unknown with the server's reason (greylisted, timeout, no_greeting, relay_blocked…). Not billed, and the response says so | classification Unknown, "unable to validate the email address for technical reasons", with the specific status code. Whether unknowns are charged: to verify |
| Levels of service | 1 credit, one level of service | Standard (1 credit), High (2 credits) and Extreme (to verify credits); higher levels retry longer to reduce transient results |
| Billing in the response | billed: true or false on every answer | Not a field |

Fit for a signup, checkout or lead form

| Lists | File upload in the dashboard, any size, same rules; no batch endpoint on the public API | Lists in the client area or by API file import (plain text, CSV, TSV, Excel), up to 100 MB compressed |
| Client libraries | None. Plain HTTP; snippets in curl, Node, Python, PHP and Go in the docs | .NET, Java, Node.js and browser JavaScript, Ruby, PHP and Go, free and open source |

| Team features | One account, one API key | Multiple users with permissions, multi-factor authentication, client certificates, throttling and firewall rules |
Where the two are the same
- The same four groups of results, each with a named status or reason.
- Disposable, role and free-provider flags, and alternative spellings for typos.
- Catch-all domains are labeled, not called valid.
- Purchased credits never expire on either.
Where Verifalia has more
- SDKs for six platforms, a widget, completion callbacks and integrations through Zapier and Pipedream.
- Three quality levels, custom classification schemes and team management with fine-grained permissions.
- Verifying email since 2005, with configurable retention down to five minutes.
Where Verimail differs
- The mail server's own reply on request, so a rejected user can be explained from the response.
- One call, one answer: no job to create or poll, and a slow server comes back as an unbilled unknown inside your timeout (up to 45 s).
- One level of service, one credit per address, and a
billedfield and a suggested action in every answer. - A free tier that renews monthly instead of daily, and a lower price per thousand at every pack size in the table.
