# Verimail > Email verification that shows its work: a conclusive verdict with its reason, or an honest unknown that costs nothing. Two ways to ask, one engine: file verification for lists (https://verimail.io/) and a real-time API for signup, checkout and lead forms (https://verimail.io/api). Verimail (verifying email since 2019; operated by Verimail Ltd, UK) answers one HTTP request with one of four verdicts — deliverable, undeliverable, risky, unknown — plus the reason, whether it was billed, a safe default action, flags (disposable, role account, free provider, catch-all), and on request the SMTP evidence. Unknown results and syntax errors are never billed. Free key: 100 verifications a month, no card. ## Docs - [API reference](https://verimail.io/docs/v3): the request, every response field, evidence, timeouts, errors - [Handling results](https://verimail.io/docs/handling-results): the four verdicts and the switch in Node, Python, PHP, Go - [Result codes](https://verimail.io/docs/results): every reason code, grouped by verdict, billed or free; also served as JSON at https://api.verimail.io/v3/codes - [Guides](https://verimail.io/guides): signup forms, form submit, disposable addresses, unknown and catch-all, checkout and lead forms - [Full text for agents](https://verimail.io/llms-full.txt) ## The request POST https://api.verimail.io/v3/verify with header `Authorization: Bearer ` and form body `email=
`. Optional: `timeout=` (1000–45000; expiry returns verdict unknown, reason timeout, unbilled) and `evidence=true` (attach the SMTP dialogue). GET with `?email=` also works. ## Policy - deliverable → accept - undeliverable → reject (show `reason` in plain words) - risky → accept and confirm by email (disposable addresses come back suggested_action: reject) - unknown → accept and confirm by email, or retry later; never billed ## Optional - [Pricing](https://verimail.io/pricing): plans and packs, credits that never expire - [Comparisons](https://verimail.io/vs): side-by-side comparisons with other verification APIs, sourced - [File verification](https://verimail.io/): upload a CSV, same engine and rules; unknowns, duplicates and syntax errors are never billed - [The API page](https://verimail.io/api): the real-time endpoint for forms - [Why we don't guess](https://verimail.io/why): the manifesto
